I need input from everyone. We currently are considering changing our carpet color and grade level. It wouldn't be a big jump ( from a level 2 to a level 3). Tomorrow is the 30 day mark and the last day we can make color changes. So, my question is have you heard about the performance of the level 2 carpet? Does anyone have it? Are you satisfied with your choice? Lastly, I'm posting our flooring picture below. I really liked the colors together when we chose it, but now I'm second guessing it. Do you think the carpet and laminate wood will look alright next to each other? Sorry for all the questions, but we want to get this right now before it's too late.
From everything the carpet guy told us,level 2 and 3 are fairly comparable. The pad would make the biggest difference. We did level 3 in the family room (mainly because of the color/style choices)and level 1 in the basement and upstairs and upgraded the pad throughout. We have 2 little kids, a dog and cat,so honestly, we didn't want to get too expensive for carpet that may get ruined either way! How much carpet do you have? Maybe upgrade in the higher traffic zones?
ReplyDeleteI think laminate and carpet are fine near each other. Lots of people hardwood/laminate in some and carpet in the rest and it looks great especially with the nice transitions. I think as long as there is some contrast in color you should be good to go! Hope that helps!
Thanks Elise! We did upgrade the padding to 8 lb. I'm thinking the carpet will look fine once it's in. I'm just slightly freaking out because tomorrow is the last day and there's no turning back. Lol! They just need to start building it so I can quit second guessing things. :)
DeleteWe just recently did carpet freak out and even sent our SR a hypothetical "say you already started building and you wanted to change carpet..." But, I agree it will all look great once installed. The pad will made it nice and cushy and Level B is really nice! You will continue to question and wonder, I guess it is all part of not really knowing. We keep worrying that we messed something up or forgot to put something we really wanted in! Trying to just sit back and enjoy the ride!
DeleteI totally agree. I think we will keep wondering until we see the home finished and sign on the dotted line. In the end, I know we will love it.
DeleteI thought I was the only one. I've been second guessing the lot, flooring, lighting..EVERYTHING all week. Yesterday was my 30 day mark. You will be fine! After upgrading my stove yesterday I did send my SR a message late last night (still on the 19th) that we wanted to add some recessed lighting to the family room. We purchased our family room ceiling fan yesterday after we left and realized that it just won't be enough light in that room without adding some recessed lights.
ReplyDeleteMy last house had a living room that had horrible lighting. It basically only provided mood lighting. I don't want that to be the case in our new build.
You're definitely not the only one. We have already done 3 change orders. I'm not so sure I want a fourth. Lol! I'm really leaning toward leaving it the way it is and trusting we made the right decision the first time. I told my husband that too, but he's still thinking on it. I understand the lighting issue. We put in more recessed lighting in the kitchen and 7 ceiling fan/lights throughout the house. We can't stand being too hot and sitting in the dark. Lol!
DeleteThat's the other thing we added! We last minute (after the 30 day mark) added recessed lights in the family room and basement, changed our door color, and I think there were some other things! It's true, you always wonder since you can't see it all together! Glad there are other worriers out there!
DeleteWe even questioned our elevation at one point!
DeleteElise that is funny. At least that gives me comfort that you were able to add additional lights after the 30days. I thought the door color was automatic based on the siding and brick that was chosen. I didn't get an option to choose the color of the door.

ReplyDeleteI believe your choices look great, although can't offer any opinion between the level 2 and 3 as I am just beginning my Ryan Home journey. I am totally with you on the questioning all options and selections; I've started to do that already (and we just signed purchase agreement 1/6). But I believe we are justified because all we want is to make our homes the best and most "us" they can be.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. We really want it to be "our" home. We have always felt like we were living with everyone else's choices in our previous homes. This time it is our turn and we want it just right. :) Are you blogging your build C? If so let me know so the RH bloggers can follow along.
DeleteI am blogging, but so far it has been more of a place to collect my rambling thoughts (and document the process to look back on in the future. I would love mine to be as helpful as everyone else's has been but I'm not sure how much anyone would get out of it.
DeleteMy blog is avalonendeavor.blogspot.com.
Ok great!
